Course Description:

CDC TRAIN Health Educators & Learning Professionals (HELP) Community of Practice Learning Series.  Presentation 13.  Accessibility and Interactivity.
Thursday,  May 30th 3:00 - 4:00 pm EST

Our community of practice includes learning professionals with a variety of position titles (Health Educators, Multimedia Specialist, Instructional Designer, College Professor, etc...) and expertise (training analysis, design, development, implementation or deliver, and evaluation, to name a few!). We face the challenge of keep up in a professional field that seems to be growing in diversity with every passing day and at the same time, requiring us to keep up with educating and training our workforce. We hope that this webinar series will help to bridge the gap and provide you with timely and helpful training!

The theme of the webinar this month is Accessibility and Interactivity. This session will provide an introduction Section 508 Accessibility rules for Web content, including e-learning. There will be a demonstration of Freedom Scientific's JAWS assistive technology screen reader, which is used by many visually impaired Internet users. Designing and developing 508-complaint interactions is especially a challenge, and will be adressed. We will look behind the scenes at CDC EDAB e-learning modules created using Lectora® and how to keep them 508-compliant. There will also be a discussion on additional resources for Section 508.

The presenter is Karen Kanne Ngowe, a Senior Instructional Technologist with the Educational Design and Accreditation Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has been an e-learning instructional designer for more than a dozen years for academia, private industry, and government, as well as spending an equal number of years as a classroom teacher at the college/university level. Karen received an M.A. in Educational Administration with a certificate in educational technology from the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) program at Michigan State University.

This is an Adobe Connect webcast presentation. Instructions for joining are sent via email by the TRAIN system after registration so make sure that you have not opted out of receiving emails. A handout is also available after registration in the registration tab.

CDC staff can join colleagues for the presentation at 2400 Century Center, Room 6211. Please be prepared to share attendance numbers if you have a room of people calling in.  We would like to obtain accurate attendance numbers.

Mark your calendars and be sure to join us on May 30th.  This the last Thursday of the month!

This is the best presentation I have seen on Section 508. I would love to see it as a full day class. Specifically, I need it for Articulate Storyline.
