Program Description

The training will help to assure that testing personnel have the basic training necessary to safely and accurately perform patient testing waived under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988.  After viewing this training module, participants will understand that waived testing can produce inaccurate results and that these results could adversely impact patients.  There are many things they can do, however, to minimize the risk of inaccurate testing.  The learning objectives itemize several specific things that the participant will be able to do as a result of this training.

Target Audience

Learners are individuals who perform testing in waived testing sites (mainly physician offices, nursing facilities, home health agencies, clinics, pharmacies and others) throughout the United States. They include a variety of individuals, primarily those who do not have formal laboratory training. These most frequently include:

  1. Nurses, (LPN, RN, NP, Midwife)
  2. Medical Assistants, (MA)
  3. Physicians, (MD, DO, DPM, DDS)
  4. High school graduates or individuals with GED
  5. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), paramedics
