Course Description
:

Dengue Clinical Case Management course is designed to increase knowledge in epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and develop a competency in the management of patients suspected of infection with the dengue virus.  This course provides physicians and other health care professionals the latest information regarding:

  • Clinical and laboratory diagnosis of dengue, including differential diagnosis
  • How to recognize the stages of dengue and warning signs of severe dengue, as well as the pathogenesis of dengue
  • How to monitor dengue patients and best practices in fluid management 
  • Epidemiology of dengue in the U.S., prevention and control

As part of the course, there is a pretest and posttest. These questions are designed to help you assess your level of knowledge about dengue clinical management, both before and after you take this course. The questions will also aid the course developers in determining how well course participants are learning the concepts presented, which may lead to improvements in the course in the future. Your pre and posttests will be evaluated anonymously and in aggregate. 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

After completing this course, you will be able to

  • Recognize and assess a patient with dengue.
  • Explain how the dengue virus is transmitted, and list preventive measures.
  • Describe the clinical course of dengue, and explain WHO case definition.
  • List diseases and conditions that are on the differential diagnosis of dengue.
  • Identify complications in each phase of the illness, and explain how to recognize warning signs, plasma leakage, and early signs of shock.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of how to apply correct treatment to dengue patients.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

To obtain Continuing Education you need to first complete the course in TRAIN. Then you need to register at the Training and Continuing Education website (TCE Online). Once you have registered for CE for the course, you will need to take the posttest and evaluation for the course. After successful completion of the evaluation and posttest, you will receive the continuing education and can then print your certificate and transcript. To register, please follow the following steps:

  1. Go to http://www.cdc.gov/TCEOnline/.
  2. Select Participant Login, to login. If you have been to TCEO previously but have forgotten your password, click on the link “Forgot your password”. If you are new to TCEO, select New Participant to create a user ID and password.
  3. Once you are logged on to TCEO, the Participant Services page will display.
    1. Select Search and Register
    2. Under search options, use option 2, Keyword Search and enter the course name key words, Dengue, or the CDC course number WB1957 in the box and select View
    3. Select the course link when it appears beneath the search boxes by clicking on the course title (shown in blue type).
    4. Scroll down to Register Here,  select the type of CE you would like to receive and select Submit
  4. Either complete or verify the demographic information and select Submit.
  5. Since you will have already completed the course, select the option to take the evaluation. Complete the evaluation and Submit. A 4 question posttest is required and it will follow the evaluation. You must pass the posttest to receive CE.
  6. Your CE certificate will be located in the Transcript and Certificate section, located on the TCEO Participant Services page.
